Observation of Wildlife with Jane Goodall

For last month's science lesson we covered the basic needs of animals. The objective was for them to recall objects found in nature and classifying them  as living or nonliving. This was a blast for them and me. We ended the lesson study with a trip to the Minnesota Zoo (for information on how to get a free pass to the Minnesota Zoo, click here)
Here are some pics of our field trip:

This month for Marvelous Mondays, we are integrating math, geography, reading, and writing skills with the Core Knowledge science content of Jane Goodall. This will allow the boys the opportunity to experience authentic life skills such as, observation of wildlife and experimentation that is age level appropriate. Specific skills include comparison and contrasting, distinguishing specific characteristics in chimpanzees, and writing about ways people can help chimpanzees. I think we might have to go back to the zoo:)

Here is a free copy of this month's lesson plan we will be using. (pdf format)
