For last month's science lesson we covered the basic needs of animals. The objective was for them to recall objects found in nature and classifying them as living or nonliving. This was a blast for them and me. We ended the lesson study with a trip to the Minnesota Zoo (for information on how to get a free pass to the Minnesota Zoo, click here)
This month for Marvelous Mondays, we are integrating math, geography, reading, and writing skills with the Core Knowledge science content of Jane Goodall. This will allow the boys the opportunity to experience authentic life skills such as, observation of wildlife and experimentation that is age level appropriate. Specific skills include comparison and contrasting, distinguishing specific characteristics in chimpanzees, and writing about ways people can help chimpanzees. I think we might have to go back to the zoo:)
Here is a free copy of this month's lesson plan we will be using. (pdf format)

This is wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing. I plan to review this info and see how we'll incorporate it. I love nature and strive to pass this love onto our kids.
hey, your welcome! My boys had a blast with this lesson plan. I just found out a few weeks ago that Jane Goodall is going to be in Minnesota next month visiting the zoo.
sorry to leave this here. I didn't see an email contact. You've won a coupon in my tyson grilled chicken giveaway. Please send me your address at stkappleto at hotmail.com
I ♥ Jane! Have you heard of Roots & Shoots?? I have been coordinating a group for 10+ years now.. it is a wonderful grassroots organization.
I've heard the name, but don't know a whole lot about it.
This is great, thanks. We have a homeschool Roots and Shoots near us and we plan to attend for the next meeting. I'm hearing good things about it. They have a website and info about starting a group. http://www.rootsandshoots.org/
(wonderinthewoods) thanks for the link!
